If someone asks me how beautiful my mother nature is....i recommend you to visit this place!!
The place where nature meets Heaven..The place where you feel mankind is nothing in front of nature..the place where life gets a new meaning. It is one of the best treat to your senses.....
All my aspiring fellow trekkers here we present ..BANDAJJE..!!
It all started when me and my fellow mate lost presence of mind for a moment and started talking about this place...we had no idea whether we would be able to make this dangerous yet life's most beautiful experience..but now i feel glad that we have finally reached to the summit with all the difficulties we had to face...
Myself followed by Bhushan, Rajesh, Madhu started our journey from Bangalore on a friday night from Vidyapeeta in a private travels..Having started the journey we had 2 of our other frnz Kiran and Kiran...dont be shocked , both of their names are the same.. had to be picked from from rajajinagar and Jalahalli cross. When finally everyone boarded the bus the adventure started at the very beggining . THough the bus was a Sleeper coach..we had few of other frnz who accompanied with us the whole night....BED BUGS.. We were not able get thru this but still we somehow were able to catch some sleep for a short time...We reached Dharmasthala in the morning at 630 am sharp ...we had less time to reach Mr.Narayana Gowda's place...So got freshed up and took a Jeep to the source point.. We did have our Breakfast in Ujire and reached Gowda's place by 830.
We had our first Glitch, the rain had completely washed up the trail. We were also warned by Mr.Gowda that there was a herd of Elephants which were at their wildest behaviour and the FYI a gang of tekkers were chased a day before by them . The situation being like this we had to hire a guide without which it would have been even more worse than what we experienced.
The actual trek started at 930 am from Gowdru mane. We had requested our guide to stop near a stream where we can take a bath and perpare ourselves to combat the abundant family of "LEECHES"..For our bad luck and due to rain we had to take a different route where we could not find any glimpse of water source for nearly 3 hours...The worst part was the leeches had already started its war....Initially the trail was kind of easy but as we moved into the dense forest it got tough with humidity and Leeches...We had no choice rather continue the trek instead of halting in between...REASON::: LEEECHES...!!! It is very common to feel stressed quickly during the inital stages as the body need to adjust itself with the strain..
After a 4 hours of trecherous trek we finally were able to find the downstream of the waterfall...
We took an hour break for Lunch and bath ...We got rid of all the brother leeches that were having a nice meal of human Blood..Being fooled by the guide although we had taken precautionary measure for leeches..we never got a chance to use the tobbacco Twig which would have easily defended the Enemy leeches...Some thing intresting happend at this place....
It was the famous MALABAR PIT VIPER which has hanging on a tree branch with perfect attacking position inches away from every one's ASS!!
After refreshing and a great escape from the Viper's Bite we continued our second leg of the trek.
This is the right place where you have to cross the stream, or else there is no way you can reach the falls...It can easily mislead you. You have to cross the stream and take the trail which runs to your left...The trail from here gets more tougher than you can imagine..It was a easy task for us to find the right trail coz we had our most experienced and more energetic Guide MR. Muniyappa..You will not have any idea how far you are away from the falls as the jungle is very very thick.. It took us 3 hours to reach the Grassland. Finally we were able to see the open sky...The view from here is breathtaking as you can see the Kuduremukh Range ,Charmudi Ghat and very much awaited Bandajje Falls. I would recommend you all to wear hat or anything that saves you from the Scorching heat of Sun...The grassland fooled us as it was even more tougher to climb than what we expected.. You will not be able to find any shade here till you reach the Falls..so better have your energy drinks and water handy with you…it can take you down very easily…
Unfortunately, we failed to continue the trek with the same pace and took lot of breaks as we were almost getting dehydrated easily..From here you might have to ascend 8 small mountains which is not funny for us to digest at this kind of situation. Our bottles got dried very soon and we were in need of some liquid to quench our thirst..God finally opened his eyes and granted us with a small stream of water. We drank a lot of water here filled our bottles and started continuing our way to reach the Day 1’s destination..The falls is visible beautifully from the grassland and it might sound very nearer..but trust me its not!!!..we took 2 hours to reach the destination….Bushan and our guide managed to reach the spot more quicker than the others and had already pitched the tent for us..
Ufffffffffffffff…..what a trail that was…I almost felt that I had lost a dozen kilos in a single day…
You have to actually descend from the mountain to reach the spot…Which was more dangerous as it was very steep and slippery…All reached the camping area by 630 pm…We had come fully prepared with Food..We had taken 40 chapathis, 5 cup noodles and MTR Ready to Eat curries..We had also taken Obbattu..Here comes the worst part….We had a 4 Men tent and we had thought that it would not rain and we could easily spend the night out side the tent…but to our vain Mr. Varunadeva started showing his powers against us…FYI :- the tent was not WATERPROOF….!!! We finished our dinner by 8 pm ..The rain forced all of us to squeeze inside the tent …We were holding umbrella’s inside the tent to prevent ourselves from getting drenched from rain..It was one of the painful yet memorable night that I have spent in my life ..We were the only 7 people in the entire forest range, miles away from Civilization.
You can Imagine what kind of situation we were in…I guess Mr. Varunadeva realized his mistake, it stopped raining. We got out for while but , My god it was freezing cold outside….To be frank we failed to take a good nap inside the tent…Having spent the painful night…We all got up by 530am the next morning….The Day was bright and sunny…We could see our Boss Mr. Sun starting his day by loggin in to his morning shift…We took some nice snaps near the falls….Kindly be very careful while you approach the falls. It is a very deep Cliff that is almost a 250 feet . We had our breakfast and started the Day 2 trek..The Destination was to reach the Ballarayana Durga Fort…
After a painful trek and a sleepless night the previous day, Setting our minds for the next leg of the trek was the most toughest part,. We packed all our things and started climbing towards the FORT..We were forced to take long breaks to reach the peak, as the ascend was tough and steep. After a few hours of climb we reached a zone where the land was flat and we could take a deep breath and walk easily along the grasses that was also surrounded by a beautiful landscapes. The view from here is almost heavenly..You will get a feeling like you are truly in mother nature’s CRADLE..!!!! It took 4 hours to reach DURGA from the falls..It was a sigh of relief as we made it to the final Destination…We took a very very long break like for an hour to enjoy the beauty of mother Nature…
Our guide had promised us that the trail from here would be easier and we would be able to reach Sunksale before the Sun descends for the day..There was one more final glitch that was awaiting .
It was the Elephants!! We were told that the elephants were out and are almost nearer to the trail which we were supposed to take to descend the hill..Fortunately we happen to meet a person who owns a resort down in Sunksale and he had come along with his invitees to the fort . We managed to convince him to arrange a pickup so that we could easily and safely reach sunksale..Luckily as promised he did got a pick up especially for us . We had to walk 3 kms for the fort to reach the place where the Pickup would arrive. He had a Single Barrel rifle and as he open fired few bullets from his rifle to scare the elephants , we followed him till the pickup point..From then whatever happened was a happy ending…We gushed down in the pick up in just record breaking 30 min and reached sunksale…During the descend everyone started remembering memorable moments that we had spent .
It was one of the best trekking experience we all had in our life…I would recommend everyone who reads this post should visit Bandajje at least once in your lifetime ..
As I always say “KEEP YOUR FOREST CLEAN AND GREEN..More importantly SAY NO TO PLASTICS”
